Widows Harvest Rwanda (outreach from Miwani, Kenya)
Recently General Servant Joshua Atieno, Widows Harvest Africa, was in Rwanda for approximately a week in response to an invitation that he had received to come there and speak to widows. This is his report:
Greetings dear brother from Kenya. I am back from a very tearful trip to Rwanda and I really lack words to describe this trip.
FROM NAIROBI:
I missed the morning flight to Rwanda due to the traffic jam in Nairobi but by the Lord's grace , they put me on the next flight without problem. This was the Devil attempting to stop me from going to Rwanda. This has been the case with trips I make to see widows. The Devil tries by all means to stop me but the lord has been so faithful. I knew this was his work and still trusted in the Lord for his perfect will to be done.
Ministry to the widows is the most attacked ministry in my lifetime but the lord has shown me why. It is because the higher the call, the greater the test. I think the Lord will give the highest reward in heaven to those who will survive the test of serving the widows.
IN RWANDA:
Day 1
I was so much highly welcome by the widows of Rwanda. These widows took their time to wait for me at the airport for a very long time. Seeing me, they were so happy and we prayed together and lifted the Lord's name above all things.
DAY 2
I had the opportunity to share with a group of widows led by my host widow, Marthe. The widows shared their problems with me and we prayed over those problems. Most of these widows are widows of genocide. The whole world knows the horrific incidence which occurred in Rwanda. It was very tearful to hear the stories of these widows who lost their husbands in the genocide.
It is one thing to lose your husband and yet another thing to see the bones of your husband. I personally shed tears to see the many bones lying in the museum. Most of these widows are living in extreme poverty. I shared the mission of widows harvest with them and they were blessed with the message. Most of them expected help to come from me but I pointed them to Jesus who is their husband. I told them because Jesus is their husband, they are more close to Jesus than anyone else. I told them the Lord sent me to them so that they can help me and widows harvest to pray. It was indeed a good message the Lord gave me to share with the widows there. About ten widows accepted the Lord as their personal Savior and renewed their commitment to pray. May the Lord bless these widows as they begin to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
DAY 3
The Lord gave me opportunity to preach to the Presbyterian church where widow Marthe belongs and I shared on the need to care for widows and orphans, many were blessed with the message and after the church service we attended a funeral service of a man who was killed and left a widow with 4 children. They gave me the opportunity to repeat the message to the people who attended the funeral. I prayed for the widow and her children and the Lord moved in her heart to comfort her and I could see no more tears rolling as soon as I finished praying.
DAY 4
The widows took me around Kigali town to see the environment and the work the government is doing for the people. I observed that the government of Rwanda is doing a great work in rebuilding this devil torn nation. I bless the Lord for President Paul Gagame for the good work he is doing in that country. My prayer is the may the Lord reveal unto him the need to help widows in that country.
In his service,
Servant Joshua Atieno
