Dear Friends, Ministry Partners and Supports:
In Matthew 6:9-13 Jesus tells his disciples how to pray beginning with “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name” and ending with “Lead us not into temptation, but Deliver us from the evil one.”
In the middle of the prayer, though, Jesus tells us to “ask forgiveness for our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Then he revisits our need to forgive in the next 2 verses, 6:14-15 “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
When I think about forgiveness, now, I find myself also thinking about I Corinthians chapter 13, telling us that the most important thing, above all else, even faith and hope, is love. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
